Natural Hair Care

So recently I have been thinking about starting back on making weekly masks for my hair as it seems to have stopped its growth spurt and I am desperate to grow out my fringe and my hair a bit longer so I can cut in some layers.

Here are my favourite natural hair masks that I believe work in conditioning your hair.

1: First of all is oiling your hair. I know I have mentioned it before but it is the most important thing you can do for your hair to make it thick and long and strong. You can use any oils such as Macademia oil, olive oil or almond. Any oils will work wonders if yu rub them into the scalp and the ends of your hair and leave on for a few hours or overnight.

2: Egg masks are also great for your hair if a little more messy. All you need is one large egg and simply beat it together the yolk and the white and apply to your hair, they say for around 30 minutes but I usually just leave the mixture on until it starts to dry.

3: Try an avocado hair mask to add some fullness to you hair. Now this one is really messy and to be honest I think its more of a special occasion mask as it can get everywhere! All you need to do is beat the flesh of an avocado with a tablespoon of honey and some olive oil. Leave in for 20 minutes to half an hour and then wash out with a gentle shampoo.

Try any of these natural hair treatments and you should start to feel fantastic! I recommend doing them once a week every week for 6 weeks before you see a dramatic improvement but you should see results straight away. Make sure you keep having regular trims also. Every 6 weeks for hair that grows quickly and 12 weeks if you hair grows slowly.

Nars Deep Throat Blush and Nars Chihuahua Lipgloss

Nars Chihuahua Lipgloss

Nars Chihuahua Lipgloss

Nars Deep Throat Blush

Nars Deep Throat Blush

For those of you that haven’t tried Nars before I would like to introduce you to my new two favourites! It is my birthday on Tuesday and I have just been given as a birthday present these two items above by my two best friends.

For those of you that follow my blog you know how much I love Nars. They do some great colours obviously with the most famous being Orgasm which comes in a blush, highlighting stick, lipgloss and illuminating fluid due to its popularity.

The Nars products I love so far are there powder blushes of course my new Deep Throat blush which is a pink with a gold shimmer running through it which is great for pale skins. I love the lipglosses because they last well and also don’t make your lips stick together like I sometimes find with Mac Lipglosses. I love the colour of Chihuahua lipgloss it’s a muted pink which goes great with Deep Throat and doesn’t have any shimmer, so perfect for every day or night.

If you are pale skinned then Deep Throat blush is a great one for you, if you are darker then something like Orgasm or Super Orgasm will look amazing. A lot of people love the Turkish Delight lipgloss but it’s just a bit pale for me so I am happy to have received the Chihuahua lipgloss which I prefer!

For those of you wanting to get into Nars there blushes and eyeshadows are a great place to start, they also do great lipcolour. A lot of people have mixed reviews about their foundations and whilst I can’t find a colour for myself I do think that Nars foundations are great if you are darker skinned or tanned.

Gorgeous, easy to do, smokey eye make-up from Pixiwoo. All you need is greensmoke eyeshadow and tarnish pencil. Great for a summer night out with tanned skin and pink blush and a bit of lipgloss.

Clarins Skincare Haul

Clarins Skincare haul

For those of you who follow my blog, you will know that I recently went on holiday to Turkey. Whilst I was there I thought I would take advantage of the duty-free shopping in the airport. Above in the rubbish phone photo you can see what I got as part of the travel kit one of the moisturisers I bought separately and missing from the photo is the Clarins Hand And Nail Cream which I am loving.

I thought I would go through which of the products I love and why and the ones I recommend!

Bottom centre: Clarins One Step Facial Cleanser- this facial cleanser I do use anyway and I really love it. It is about 20 GBP to buy separately but it is really worth it. It takes of all of your make up off as it is oil based and it also cleanses and tones at the same time. I am quite lazy in the morning before work with my skin care and I really like this product for that reason. In one step you are cleansed and toned!

Clarins Daily Energizer Lotion SPF15- This energizer is great for normal skin, it does what it says and really energizes you in the morning whilst keeping you moisturised but not oily throughout the day. I can wear this at the moment because my skin is drier than it normally is but when I am oily I don’t think I would be able to wear that moisturiser I think I would have to go back to a gel moisturiser.

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm- you get a travel size of this and I have loved this for years anyway so I do have a full sized one at home that conveniently had just run out. Apparently you should only use this product on special occasions so that your skin doesn’t get used to it. It is a radiance booster and primer in one and really makes you look amazing. It is the only primer with my oily skin where at the end of the night my make up is still perfect so I save it for really special nights out.

Clarins Eye Contour Gel- you get a small size of this gel and it is supposed to reduce dark circles ad puffiness which it definitely does and it has such a great light texture that you could wear make-up over. I am only 21 and don’t really need too much contouring so I don’t think I would buy it again, I think I would go for something a bit lighter but if you have a problem with puffy eyes my friend tried this who does and she found it worked really well!

Clarins Daily Energizer Gel- I went to Clarins and purchased the Daily Energizer Lotion because I felt the Hydra Quench Cream I got with the travel kit was quite thick and better for at night. Whilst I was there they gave me sample of the gel for cleansing which matches and so I have tried that. I really like this gel but I prefer the one-step because it is just so easy to remove make-up and it does everything in one step.

Clarins Hydra Quench Cream- Now this moisturiser is for normal to dry skin and is very moisturising and feels really luxurious on the skin. It doesn’t feel greasy and also doesn’t create too much oil on my skin. I think this moisturiser is perfect for someone with a drier skin and I have used it at night-time and have found my skin looks great when I wake up.

Clarins Moisture Rich Body Lotion- This is the only product I wouldn’t buy again. Everyone knows Clarins is expensive and I really like this body lotion but you do have to use quite a bit. Whilst it smells delicious and really does moisturise all day I have to use twice the amount of my normal moisturiser to be able to get it to spread and as a student I can’t keep on doing that!

So that was just a bit more on my skin care haul and what I thought of it. I wanted to show you exactly what I bought so sorry for the Iphone photo but at least you get the idea!

My Favourite Make-Up Brushes

Here is just a quick list of my favourite brushes for make-up application. I am actually quite lazy when it comes to brushes and tend to use one brush for a number of things. If I am going somewhere special I will use all my brushes though, and of course they are nice to look at. A lot of my brushes are from MAC Cosmetics though a few are from different brands. Sometimes I wish I had a full set from one place as I like things to look neat and tidy. However, the brushes I have chosen are the best ones for the job and so I would like to share with you the brushes I have loved and I am open to any suggestions of great brushes or cheaper alternatives:

1: MAC 266– This angled brush I use for my eyebrows and to draw a line of shadow along the line of my lashes. I really like this brush as it can be used for eye shadow and gel liner which means although you have to pay out quite a bit for this brush it does have dual uses.

2: MAC 217– I absolutely love this brush. It is so amazing for many purposes. The most popular being of course blending eye shadow but also I love to use it to buff in my concealer and also to apply highlighter. The brush is great for many purposes and again worth the money.

3: MAC 239– This brush is great for putting on eye shadow. You can really pack colour on with this brush. In my opinion, for eyes, the only two brushes you need are the 217 and 239.

4: Real Techniques Buffing Brush– I bought this as part of a set but I wish they sold it on their own. I have had many foundation brushes but none have I liked more than this one. The brush feels so luxurious on the skin and when I use it with my Healthy Mix foundation by Bourjois it’s like a match made in heaven!

5: Sigma Tapered Face Brush– For blush contour and powder I use this brush. I love the taper at the end because I have quite high cheekbones and I can really sculpt with it, the brushes cover quite a large area and so I also use it for normal blush and powder if I am just doing a bit of powder on the t-zone.

If I am doing quite a heavily powdered look on myself or if I want to put a bronzer all over then I love the Sigma F20 Large Powder Brush.

I have a large collection of brushes but these are my favourites. I have tried to select a mixture of expensive and inexpensive brushes to get your collection going. These are the brushes that I suggest as they are great for dual purposes and if you own these then you don’t really need any other brushes unless you are a make-up artist or have a bit of extra money. For home make-up these brushes are my favourite in my collection.

Beyonce Countdown Video Make-Up

I love this look. The Beyonce Countdown video is my favourite. Such a happy song with some great choreography. The video reminds me of the film Funny Face with Audrey Hepburn.

To create this look:

Eyes: Start off with a shimmery peach eyeshadow over the lid something like Shroom Eyeshadow from MAC. Then create with your favourite gel eyeliner and brush a winged eyeliner that is quite thick and extended towards the end of the eyebrows. Line your lower water line with a white eyeliner pencil, Sleek does a really cheap one which stays quite well. Then use a black eyeshadow such as Carbon by MAC close under the lashes to define the eye leaving the tearduct free of product. Now for that pop of amazing shimmery yellow in the corner. Use a yellow pigment just in the tear duct for that pop of colour. Apply mascara.

Face: Apply foundation as normal, I recommend MAC Face and Body as it isn’t a heavy coverage. Then a nice peachy pink on the cheeks with a bit of shimmer, something like deep throat from NARS would work brilliantly.

Lips: To finish, a coat of a very shiny pink lipgloss is all thats needed. I used MAC Lipglass in Full For You.

So there is your finished Beyonce make-up look. I think this look is great for a night out for something special and would look brilliant with some false eyelashes and a tan if you are pale.

Products For Glowing Tanned Skin- Holiday Make Up

I am off on holiday tomorrow and I cannot wait. So in the spirit of all things holiday I thought I would share with you some of my favourite products. It is just a short post on the make-up I am taking with me on holiday as well as what sort of make-up I will be buying from duty-free.

What I am taking:

Nars Illuminator in Orgasm

Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzer

Nars Blusher In Orgasm

Maxfactor Masterpiece Mascara

Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser

Urban Decay Naked Pallette

Then there are a few products I will be buying from duty-free at the airport. I am hoping that there is a Clarins skin set with a cleanser, toner, moisturiser and the flash balm as I love Clarins skin care and would like to go back to using Clarins as I am getting bored with my skin routine which happens a lot! I am also going to be buying some YSL lipsticks perhaps a coral and a pink because they are moisturising and really pigmented and look great with a tan and without.

I am also going to treat myself to a perfume, depending on how much money I have left it could be Bottega Venetta or perhaps Jimmy Choo. Both of which I love.

What are your go to products for holiday?

Curly Hair With No Heat

If you have naturally curly hair then you know what I am talking about when you hear me say that I have hated my curly hair for years and years. There is something to do with growing up that makes you immediately hate your curls and want to burn that curl out with any possible heat treatment you can find.

My problem was always that my curly hair looked great but I didn’t like how it made it look shorter, as I have such a thing about thinking I look better with long hair. Hey, we all have our body hang ups and I wont bore you with mine!

So recently I read a story in a newspaper about Thandie Newton saying that she is embracing her naturally Afro Caribbean hair and how she is proud of her curls. I started thinking, why don’t I wear my hair curly? After all it takes 5 minutes to do and it means I don’t have to wash my hair every day as it looks greasy much less quickly.

Okay so here is how I style my curly hair:

First of all I wash my hair with a curl enhancing shampoo and conditioner. I have two current favourites one being the more expensive Bedhead by TIGI Hi Def Curls shampoo and matching conditioner, which I think works great at enhancing those curls. For a cheaper option I love Herbal Essenses Tousle Me Softly shampoo and conditioner which really works at smoothing the hair shaft and making those curls look healthy, I don’t think it creates curls as well but it makes my hair feel really soft afterwards.

Next I style my hair. Sticking with the theme of Bedhead by TIGI I use the Foxy Curls Mousse to create my curls or if I am on a budget then i use the John Frieda Ease Curl Reviver Corrective Styling Mousse.

I style my hair the same way with either mousse, basically I section my hair usually into 3 sections, so I get some at the bottom, make a middle parting (or whatever parting I am having and do either side. Starting with the bottom I run the mousse through the hair and use my fingers to twist strands of hair into curls.

Please note this will only work if you have naturally curly hair. Now all you have to do is let your hair dry naturally and watch those curls form. Spray some hairspray if needed but really you shouldnt have to as the mousse should do all the work for you.

Kendall Jenner Make-Up Look

Wow- how beautiful is Kendall Jenner? For those of you that don’t know who she is, I have blogged about her before and it is safe to say I have a little make up and style crush when it comes to this girl. First of all look at that hair! So long and gorgeous and her make up is always so flawless. She is obviously inspired by her older sisters and has been taught at an early age how to get that Kim Kardashian look!

I love this everyday look she does, I found this picture on her twitter its an instagram shot but you can see the make up a bit better than in other photos. I think this make up is great for every day and perfect for a first date if you want to look like you didn’t spend hours in front of the mirror and you actually just look naturally great!

Get the Kendall Jenner look:

1) Eyes- First of all sweep a primer such as MAC Bare Study Paint Pot over the lid and up to the brow. Next apply a light slightly shimmery beige over the lid such as Shroom by Mac. Contour the crease with a fluffy blending brush and a warm gold eyeshadow such as Woodwinked by Mac. Next fill in your brows with the eyeshadow colour you usually use, not too thick but defined enough to give the eyes some drama. Then apply a liquid or gel liner along the lash line in a moderately thick line without flicking out at the end. Apply lashings of mascara and if you like more definition do as Kendall has done and use a charcoal grey pencil on the waterline or a soft black.

2: Face- All of the Kardashian girls love their foundation. To copy this look if you don’t have flawless skin and you need to recreate this perfect skin look I recommend Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua which has such a thin texture but a great coverage. Just smooth on with fingertips or use a brush if you prefer.

3: Cheeks- Kendall is just wearing a soft pinky peach blush and it looks like instead of wearing a powder she has a bronzer all over. My favourites to use for this look would be Nars Laguna Bronzer and Nars Orgasm Blush.

Lips: For lips use a tinted lip balm such as the Revlon Lip Butter in Peach Parfait.

And now all we need to do is grow our hair so it goes all the way to our bums and practise that model pout, well we are halfway there at least!
